Pau Civil was a very Italian tenor, not only because of his style and vocal brightness but also because of his marriage and residence in Milan for more than fifteen years and for his frequent performances in Italy's major theatres and radio studios.

An excellent musical education and the study of his extensive repertoire gave great security to Civil and so he was much appreciated by the conductors of the major theatres who always praised the Catalan tenor's professionalism and availability.

The recordings of the second period, with the technical progress made during the ten or twelve years that had gone by, show the best Civil, in what we could consider the two "pearls" of this CD: Fedora's brilliant "Amor ti vieta", which no one has ever sung better and Carmen's "Flor" (in Italian) a genuine model of good phrasing. The two are from 1940. From 1942 are two other excellent interpretations, pertaining to Lucrezia Borgia and La Wally.
